Theft at work

Good morning, I had something stolen out of my bag in the tea area at work last week, now you ask why is my bag in the tea area well this is because this is where the company’s wants us to keep it. Now the thing that is really pushing my buttons is that the item that was taken was a pair of sunglasses that I had got for Father’s Day now these were not cheap,(I don’t care about the money just the glasses) but the company are saying that I shouldn’t have bought them to work and it’s my fault they were taken, any advice on what I can do now?

Unfortunately given the circumstances you have described in your post then you I do not think you can hold your employer responsible for the theft of the sunglasses. That said if there has been a spate of thefts of employee property and the company has failed to take appropriate action to deal with it then liability may arise.*
