  • Fake Roles at work to take credit for employees work

    Hi,

I suspect one of my managers was creating FAKE roles at work to get people to do work and then take credit for the work and get herself promoted. I believe she was doing this to me as at the time I was a younger (in my 20s) and very enthusiastic employee there and had little reason to suspect such things would happen at a major IT company.
This happened back in 2006 , the reason I suspect this is the team structure seemed unusual and does not seem to be replicated anywhere else in the company.
Also one of her friends boasted that she used to make FAKE roles during a meeting we had several years ago which just seems to confirm my suspicions.

So basically her role was Test Lead of a team* but at the same time I was also a lead tester reporting to her with several people reporting to me and there were two more lead testers with some testers reporting to them and reporting to her. However I did 60% per cent of the work on the team of about 12 people, in terms of raising that many defects on the systems which is why i believe she was taking credit for my work.
Also anywhere else I have worked in the company I have not seen a team structure of two people doing a similar role ie Test Lead reporting to another test lead. I think she just made up fake and unauthorized test lead roles to get others to do the work and just claimed she was the actual Test Lead of the entire team of 12 but did little as she got me and 2 other test leads to do the work.

It is too late to do anything about this in terms of compensation for me, there is one other employee that was one of the potential fake test lead still working there and I am in contact with another who could provide evidence and also we could look at historic data ie for reviews and feedback. I could contact my HR in the first instance but as it so long ago not sure what can happen, does anyone have any thoughts?

I really do not see how you can raise an issue about something that happened 14 years ago. I appreciate you were a lot younger and enthusiastic but at the time the process would have been to raise a grievance and it would be considered very late raise one now since they need to be dealt with as soon as possible after the event. *

LB admin thanks for the reply the only reason I did not know something dodgy was going on was as it was only when her friend revealed it a couple years ago by telling us and personally I did not think such things happened in major blue chip IT companies but clearly this country is not as honest as we would like to think. I expect even legally its passed any time limits but i am not too familiar with what time limitations are in the UK for such cases.

I am sorry to say that you are passed any legal time limits for being able to progress this that I am aware of.
