My job is as shop assistant in dept store, and we have been redeployed to work at the warehouses doing 10hr shifts packing barbecues bedding and furniture. Is this acceptable during this difficult time?

Yes these are very difficult time and employers are trying to do everything they can, including redeployment to remain in operation and keep their staff working to avoid having to furlough or make redundancies.
I would just say ask are the hours of work consistent with what you were contracted to do as a shop assistant, if not and 10 hours is more, are you being paid for these additional?
