  • Gross misconduct potential recovery

    I've got myself in a real pickle, work for a food retailer and have taken food without paying, they're investigating and have stated gross misconduct and dismissal as possible outcome.
    Ive admitted to it and have asked for their help as I was suffering from some financial difficulties through this. I've suggested I resign as I'm devastated by what I've done and they are saying to get some help and take time before any decision. They will follow their process and see where it takes them. I just want to resign and get out as quick as I can. I know they can continue the process anyway but what scares me more is the prospect of criminal charges and jail...

    I appreciate that this is an anxious time, however do take some heart from the fact that the company have said to get some help and take time before making a decision rather than doing something as a "knee jerk" reaction to the situation you find yourself in.

    Was the value of the food high? Has the company threatened involving the police?*
