I started a role with my current company in 2015. When i started there were 3 pay increments that i would achieve, (G1, G2 and G3). I started on pay scale G1 which was entry level and after 12 months would get G2*followed*by G3 6 months later.
After 12 months i enquired about my payise to the next increment only to be told that i needed to complete a NEBOSH qualification to achieve G2 and that they had made G3 a "business needs only" salary cap. So basically unachievable.*
I was never informed of this NEBOSH qualification at interview and certainly not informed that my pay increments depended on it. this was something that was added to the matrix after i started in the role. The company only signed me up with the training provider after my enquiry about my*pay rise i.e, 12 months into the role..*It took me a further 18 months to achieve the qaulification and get my*pay rise*to G2. They did back date my pay after i raised my concerns, however this*didn’t*include lost pension contributions and extra money i would of earned from my hourly overtime rate. I am the only member of staff to complete this qualification and it has now been removed from the salary matrix. New starters in the company now simply complete a 4 hour onsite course followed by a multiple choice exam to achieve the same salary as myself.
I feel like i am being messed about by my employer without any consultation, and they seem to move goalposts whenever they want.
They obviously acknowledged their error with backdating my pay, however i am still left with a very bitter taste in my mouth about the removal of my top pay increment.
I want to confront them about this. Can they just remove my top pay increment from the salary matrix legally, after I've already started in the role on that pay scale?
Have i got grounds to to make a case against them and demand the top salary that i should of had after 18 months employment?
Any help would be much appreciated
