  • Welfare Meeting

I broke my shoulder at work and have been off work for 7 weeks I have been asked to go to a welfare meeting the next day with no notice my manager will obviously be attending but also the area manager I found this unusual, I know for a fact I will be pressured to come back before I'm ready I don't like conflict so I will probably give in to there damands. I have never been to one of these meetings so don't know what to expect

Hi, try not to stress a welfare or return to work meeting is quite normal. Your employer has a duty of care to see if there is anything they may have to do in terms of adjustments to your role etc. to accommodate your return to work.

How much longer are you expected to be off work? Do you have a role that may cause a problem being able to do for a while as your shoulder continues to recover, even if you are fit to return to work. In which case this will need to be discussed at your welfare meeting.

Think you may possibly have had your welfare meeting by now, if so how did that go.

If you are thinking of returning to work early can I suggest that you speak to your GP and see what advise is given by him/her as to if you are fit to return to work and if so what duties you may be able to undertake. Your GP may recommend that you are able to return to work but on restrictive duties which your employer would need to take notice and see how to make the necessary adjustments for the time recommended.
