Working longer hours than contracted

Good morning,

Colleagues are continually working 5-10 extra unpaid warehouse operative hours per week than the 40 hours stated in the company contract. They are continually complaining about this situation and I wondered what, if anything, could be done about it. A number of staff have either left the business or gone sick with stress as a result. Thankfully I work in a different department which does not continually require extra hours. Thanks in advance.

Does the contract say anything specific about overtime? Sometimes in the contract it would say that overtime is required from time to time, but this of course has to be reasonable. I would suggest that the colleagues come together and approach the manager with their concerns about the unpaid overtime. If they can't come to an agreement, I think it would be good to get a Union involved, especially since other colleagues have left due to stress over the situation.*
