  • I cannot get my confidence back after being demoted

    Hi All

Just looking for any tips on getting my confidence at work back.

In June last year I was promoted to a supervisor in my company i.e. manage staff, lead on projects, get a management qualification, basically all the stuff to boost that next career step and i was promised an increment if i met targets which I did.

Seven months in everything i was promised and told I would be doing never came to fruition neither did my increment so a grievance eas raised as i kept asking and got fobbed off.

At the grievenace hearing i was told the supervjsor role would not be continued and i was put back into a coordinator role. I received the difference in a years salary and got free legal advice from the company's solicitor who said it was clear the company had messed it all up.

I was told they really wanted me to say would invest in me via training etc. I felt supported told what would happen and when.

Now the dust has settled I remain out in the cold. I feel like I have committed professional suicide as it were. Now I have to watch team members being promoted and given the management opportunities i was promised but this time they are getting them. The courses i was told i coild go on the team can go on those when I asked I was told sorry youre needed to cover the office and the courses are full for 2 years.

I feel like I am stuck I cannot get my confidence back at all it hurts even more now to sit there and have this go on.

I feel I have to move on but I love my job.

    Does anyone have any advice?

It must be very hard for you given the situation.

Do you have appraisals at your company? If you do and the next one is not too far off it would be a good time to have a discussion with your manager about career prospects and get some agreement as to training within what timescales etc. Being that appraisals are recorded there would be something to refer back to if commitments to career progression/training were not fulfilled.

Alternatively ask to have a meeting with your line manager and maybe include someone from HR and again see if you can get some commitment to the company supporting career progression/training for you.

Hope that helps but just post back on this thread if you need any further support.

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
If you have any doubts then do please seek professional legal advice.
