  • Relocating role to cheaper area.

    Hello,

Apologises if this is the wrong forum, I'm just after some advice on behalf of a friend.

So she has been in a full time role for about 6 years, she has now been informed that due to cost pressures her role can be done at a different site by an employee at a lower cost / grade than she is. At this stage its expected no new additional recruitment is going to made.

The line manager is fairly confident she can be redeployed however the known options are by no means certain.

The business in question is also going through a general restructuring which is believed to involve numerous redundancies.

Is she right to feel worried? She is not officially at risk but feels that by taking her primary role away from her is simply a prelude to being put formally at risk.

What are the legalities around simply telling someone their job is now going to move because its cheaper elsewhere?

    Any advice very much appreciated

(I posted on behalf of my friend as she has become quite deflated by the whole affair)

If they are relocating your friend's job elsewhere then they either need to redeploy her to another role on the same grade/salary etc or if they do not have such a position then they need to start a redundancy consultation with her, and as part of the process consider any suitable alternative positions that may be available, which could be in another department or require training in new skills if not completely consistent with your friend's current role.
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
