I was given my notice without any serious reason. During the notice period I was suggested to continue as contractor (instead of full/permanent). I asked why we don't just cancel the notice and they insisted on the contractor type of employment. What should I do?

Unfortunately with less than 2 year service your statutory rights are limited in bringing an unfair dismissal claim unless it meets the exceptions criteria.
I presume you are on your notice period at the moment?
