  • Verbal Job offer - can it be retracted due to DBS conviction?

I have an IT job offer that will involve working in some schools installing and maintaining IT equipment - I wont be working with children.
I have a conviction that shows up on DBS for Assault by Beating. I wasnt asked about DBS or criminal records before the offer.
What grounds are required to now retract the offer? Can the head of the school say no i dont want him on site?
Before I applied for DBS I revealed this conviction verbally to the hiring person. They say they need to ask the schools what the situation is.

    Any information much appreciated

    Thanks

Hello, apologies, this isnt duplicate. The first thread i posted asked a specific question. The questions on this one are quite differerent and refer to points of law on retracting a job offer. Thanks

I read somewhere that there needs to be a specific reason as to why you were unable to do the job given the conviction. ie not becasue they dont trust someone with a conviction.

If your job offer has been given conditional on your potential new employer receiving satisfactory references and where a DBS check is required that this is also satisfactory, then in the event that these do not meet the satisfaction of the potential employer they can withdraw the offer.
