  • Contacting a client after handing in notice period

    Hi guys,

I've recently handed-in my notice with my current employer and am looking to return to contracting - although I didn't officially claim constructive dismissal, the situation was brought about from such reasons and so I'm now unexpectedly finding myself looking for work.

I don't have any non-compete or clause in my contract about how I interact with clients or representing the interests of the company etc but I know there's some implied level of conduct expected.

I just wished to know where I would stand on contacting companies who are also clients of my current employer to make them aware that I will be available for work once my notice period expires.

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Thanks

Don't even think about contacting them while you are still employed.

Not sure what present rules are but back in the day when I ever changed employers I would write on company headed paper to my client contacts telling them I was leaving on such and such a date and their new contact point would be Mr Anybody.
It was a case of being polite and ensuring a smooth handover for my client and employer (it also gave the chance for any interested clients to contact me if they wanted to move their business).
That way I was able to argue that I was not poaching!
