  • Permanent role contract signed - new offer received - can I cancel?

Hello. I have recently got a new job and I have already signed the permanent employment contract. The start date has been set to November. I have then received a much better offer. Can I just cancel the current contract and go for the better job without any consequences? Thanks!

(I know it's not very professional, and I have rejected that other interview firstly. But then that offer came back to me couple of times and in the end I really would prefer to work for those other guys. So I'm willing to go against my principles here and be unprofessional for the sake of working somewhere I REALLY want to work at)

Have you checked the notice period on the contract you have signed? I would think that if you give them written notice now and are within the notice period, then you'd legally be fine. So if it's a month's notice, you could give them written notice now for the end of October.

As you have signed the contract, you cannot just cancel it but I believe that you can give notice you will not be starting in accordance with the contract. If you were subject to a probationary period then that will be the applicable notice to give.
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.

The notice period is 1 month I believe, so I should be OK.

Many thanks for your advice, much appreciated!
