  • Unfair promotion and pay rises

I am the manager for uk division of a large German company, I have been in the same position for six years and with the company for 12 years. In the last few months by boss has promoted one my team, behind by back and given him a similar financial package to myself including car allowance, fuel card etc

In the last few weeks I tried to talk with my boss about this promotion and understand what is the new responsibilities, as it seems he doing the same with little increase in work and it’s not clear what he will be doing in the future.

I have not had a pay rise for three years, but get end of year bonus but everyone in the uk gets a pay rise yearly but with smaller bonus. The company just say it’s due to difficult business year, but everyone including the recent promotion have annually pay rise.

As my boss has refused to talk about it, I setup a meeting with the HR MD in a few weeks but my boss said he will not attend and I am sure he going to complain that I am just been difficult.

This new role was never advertised internally or externally, which is unfair on the team and it’s not officially been announced to the team. Not sure my boss is just pushing me out and giving me a hard time, so I quit and can give my role to one of his managers in Germany a role as they are less busy.

Can anyone suggest what rights I have, I like my management and we are a small team and do not want to make to much noise as it will cause friction and conflicts.

    Hi and welcome

Being weekend it might be a while before our employment specialists look in, so keep an eye on your thread.

In the meantime I can advise there is no legal requirement for new positions to be advertised, either internally or externally.
You might consider their action unfair, but it is not illegal.
Whether or not your employers have a policy on this matter, which may be part of your contract is another matter.
