  • Staff discount abuse

I'm entitled to 25% discount on items for myself and gifts for others from where I work. My partner bought items and didnt ask for my card. He used his friend's student card and because the student discount was in his friend's name his friend had to put it on his card. My partner transfered the money to him. I returned the goods thinking my partner had bought it on our joint account so that's why the card number was different. I even said if it's a problem refunding it I can go on a gift card. The server put it back on MY card. I made sure the discounts total was correct etc. So today I've been put into an investigation meeting for discount fraud. When all what I can see is wrong is that the refund went onto my card and not his friends. But I only found that it wasn't his card after the investigation when I messaged him telling him I need to bring his card into work with me on Monday. I don't know what to do because he told me it was bought off the joint account. Now I'm scared it looks bad and I don't know what to do. They're his clothes hes wearing them in Vegas where he is now. I would never use my discount for other people. I don't know where to go from here?

Have you had the investigation meeting yet? I presume that the goods purchased via your partner's friend's student card were not suitable (although you reference he is now wearing them in Vegas) and they needed to be returned? The refund was then credited back to your joint bank account not the account of the friend who purchased the items??

I have to say your post is somewhat confusing. I would suggest that you really need to set everything out clearly as to dates, times place etc in regard to the purchases make the details of who paid for what, when money was transferred etc as you are going to need all of this as part of your evidence for the investigation. You will need also to include details of the person who refunded the money back to your account and why they did so, rather than your partner's friend's account, why your partner led you to believe the items were brought from your joint account - did you not check the transaction took place?

You should also find out whether you partner and the friend would be happy to provide a statement if required to help support your case.
