  • Car Insurance Complications and Woes

My head is mashed I hope someone can give proper advice, not their own opinion. I need to stay within the law.
So I work for a global pizza company, greatness from ??? you know the tune.As a delivery driver.
They supply insurance albeit third party insurance, when clocked in to clocked out, ie the hours working for said company, for business use, with all the bells and whistles that this company needs, to avoid being prosecuted.
However i am unable to find car insurance that can give me a policy that accepts the above, I have just had car insurance cancelled, even though i have stated what my occupation is. Also i have had to cancel 2 policies I have just taken out, as the exclusion are no hire or reward. Even though I do not hire or reward ??? I simply use my car , to conduct my employment. I do not profit from my paid employment, I receive, nmw and a drop price, to cover fuel, etc.
Can someone pleas advise me on what car insurance i need, where it will not be get cancelled or void due to my job. side note this has a big implication, for not only us, trying to earn a wage on a 0 hour contract, but on this plc as a whole, when taking up the job, only requirement is to provide valid car insurance, it is not stated what is "valid" car insurance. I provided valid car insurance for social domestic pleasure and commuting, it was enough for the company, to be insured under their insurance while working for them, yet your own personal car insurance becomes invalid, for the vehicle that you believe to be insured, we are not reckless drivers either, we know all we have is third party cover whist working, google cant give me a clear answer, i am unable to get a clear answer from my employer hr dept. who will not let us work unless suitable car insurance certificate is provided along with current mot and driving license
    Who can help ??

Re: Car Insurance Complications and Woes

This follows on from your run in with Hastings.
I'm not surprised that given your job and the use of your vehicle in the course of your employment that you can't obtain standard SDP &C usage cover.

Your only hope is to approach a broker who has personal contacts with an underwriter to obtain a very individual policy.
Might have been able to do that back in the seventies, but with motor insurance being so computerised now a days I fear almost impossible now.
I would suggest you Google "specialist motor insurance brokers at Lloyds" and try some of them, otherwise buy business use insurance and get your employer to pay for it.
Have you warned your fellow workers of the problems they face?
If you all approach your employer they may change their policy if they find theyhave no delivery drivers

Yes it is from the run in with Hastings , yes i have informed fellow workers , and yes it will cause a problem for the plc as a whole.
This is the issue, with being computerised, it stinks, ive been driving 25 years with 1 non fault accident, i got hit at rear by a speeding driver around 20 years ago, Ive been employed for 2 and a half years by said company, with no idiotic driving, blemish free record, my employer pays in the region of over £150 k to insure his drivers, yet private policies, condemn this, because the computer says no, can i add drivers that i have known since working for this employer, have had accidents, yet its not been the delivery drivers fault, its been the other at fault, claims have gone through the other or the person who caused the accident, ive know 2 non fault accidents that has gone through the driver at fault insurance, no one at all has been at fault who works at said company
