  • Leaving a job when you've just signed contract.

    I have just signed a contract of employment with a company and the notice period is 1 week. The rest of the documents required for my hiring haven't been signed yet (life insurance etc). Could I resign now or there might be a problem? I read somewhere that the employer can sue you if you break a contact too early. Thank you in advance.

    The contract comes into effect as soon as its signed and exchanged therefore you can resign a job you have signed the contract for but have not yet started. What you need to do is write/email the recruiting manger or the HR department explain that you have decided not to take up the position and that you are giving them the required one weeks notice.

    It is unlikely that they will do anything or require you to work the one weeks notice.
