  • Need help with Lowell letters for 6+ year old bank debt

    Hi there,
    I found this forum recently after trying to help my dad sort this Lowell issue out. And I like the atmosphere on here, your a good friendly bunch! So here's the story;
    around 6-7 years ago, he had a bank loan, and an overdraft with charges that wasn't paid. These were 2 separate debts. The bank pursued him for a short length of time, and then things went quiet. Recently, 6 years later, he started receiving letters from Lowell, and phone calls telling him he must pay them the amount by a certain date. He hasn't admitted to it on the phone. Or contacted them in any way. A few letters later, they sent him a time sensitive "offer" to pay a quarter or so of the original sum, as long as it was before today. He hasn't taken the offer or replied.
    My question is, what can they legally do? Is it true that after a certain amount of years, they can do very little? if so, what is the worst they can do? can they take him to court over this? and what should he do? in response to the letters?

    Any help would be massively appreciated

    Thank you for your time
