  • Regret responding to claim with admittance - want to avoid judgement

    Hello everyone

I’m new here and looking for advice. I’ve read various threads and the First Steps info.

I received a County Court Claim regarding outstanding student loans totalling £1300. Loans are ‘old style’ from early 90s. According to Erudio (who are no longer dealing with my account) I am liable for this amount as I failed to submit a deferral request in 2014 during a difficult time. As such, the loans apparently ‘matured’ and could no longer be deferred.

I responded to the claim saying that I acknowledge the debt (which I do, I know the final amount has not been paid off) but I’m now worried that in having sent off those forms I’ll automatically get a judgement. I want to avoid a CCJ on my record so am wondering what to do. Should I ring the court on Monday and ask them to disregard my forms? Should I try to come to an arrangement with the law firm handling this (though I have tried repeatedly to contact them by phone without success).

I have thought about disputing the claim the claim but I just want to avoid a CCJ.

Any advice would be welcome. Thanks
