  • BBL Compensation Order

    Hi

    Just after some general advise..

I started a decent part time business up just before COVID hit, we were turning over between £17k - £20k a month. Then COVID hit and we applied for the maximum £50k BBL.
Business didn't do so well after COVID and sales dried up, half of this £50k BBL got spent on staff wages (not myself) and the other half went to marketing spend etc.

We liquidated and the insolvency service didn't deem this right and I got disqualified for 9 years.

I ended up losing my FT job after the disqualfiication and just job hopped until I had enough and left the UK midway through last year to South Asia.

I have now received a compensation order application by email which the insolvency service have done with a court date in September.

Now to be clear, I have paid my taxes for 45 years and have been a law abiding citizen, my reason to leave the UK was because I was just so fed up and needed a desperate change and an opportunity came up where I can start afresh and I took it. I don't earn a lot but it's cheap where I live so it's enough to get by.

I don't have any assets in the UK, nor a bank account, no private pension and not any intensions of ever returning to the UK either. I am a 61 year old single man and rent a bedsit.

    1. What options do I have to resolve this?
    2. Can the UK courts enforce this debt outside of the UK?

Thanks for your help in advance.
    Ed.
