Normally it seems 4 letters then a 'debt collection' agency send one or two letters. That is normally it.

That's CAB arse covering, basically, their first option of what to do is correct...

If you get a letter demanding payment for losses, these are some of the things you could do:

• ignore the letter – if you do this you are taking the chance that the business won't take any further legal action against you. However, you will probably get more letters demanding payment, and threatening court action against you

The link I posted is basically where CAB assisted two young girls who were being hassled by RLP and taken to court by the retailer ( Boots, as it happens) - Boots/RLP lost in court as they simply could not justify their claim. Hence it annoys me a bit that CAB tend to say to pay it.

The ONLY reason I'd ever say to pay it is if the letters were seriously affecting your health/wellbeing. So far as I am aware neither RLP (nor the retailers signed up to their scheme) have tried to sue an individual 'shoplifter' since the Oxford case. If you have looked through any of the threads on here where people have been in your position, you'll see they just kind of die off as RLP get bored hassling them...

I rang national advice bureau and they said it has to be paid. Like parking tickets that say they don't have to be paid?

No police were called at the time, and so the shops involved wouldn't bother with it now (they'd have to explain why they had waited so long).
RLP cannot take you to court for this ... only the shops involved have the right to initiate court action (and they won't bother now it's been passed to RLP).

Take it as a lesson learned and ignore RLP. Have a look around the forum and read other RLP threads ... these letters are just speculative invoices/begging letters that are better ignored than worried about xx

Why did M and S take my photo? If the police were going to be involved she would have called them then?

Boots took no photo issued me a RLP letter and no entry to that Boots store and M and S issued a no entry letter to stores.

Hi,

I know what I did was wrong not really an excuse but nearly losing my job because I can't hit the sales targets has got me depressed.

They said they wasn't going to take this matter to the police.

Then the other to say I was no longer invited to shop at the store.

If you get a letter from a company like RLP (there are others) asking for money in compensation then ignore the letters. Only courts can issue fines and it would seem that has not got that far. Neither can bailiffs come calling as there is no debt.

Did Boots security take back the M&S goods?

As said we don't condone shop lifting take this as a warning and don't do it again. Next time you may not be so lucky and the police may be called and you WILL get a fine and a criminal record.
