it's the new "Pre-Action Protocol" for debt claims ... they'd have to follow it to bring a court claim (see~http://legalbeagles.info/forums/show...ght=Pre-Action). Don't worry, this means that (for you and other rlp 'victims') the threat of court is even less worrying IMO xx
Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

Re: RLP civil recovery notice: Unsure what to do??

I've been recently offered a graduate job in child/family social work, I already have a full DBS check because I volunteer with young vulnerable children for the last year and I'm worried if they did take this to court for money would it come up if they do a DBS check again?

Thanks guys

I'm interested to know if this will appear in any DBS/background checks as well. I work with young children as well and have already had a DBS check, but I'm worried that if I do have to do one again in the future/apply to renew my visa, that this will come up? Will this appear in any pre-employment screening etc?

From some quick research it seems it is only criminal court charges that show up. In my situation, I didn't have any fine/police involvement and was only referred to by RLP which if they did take me to court (which is very unlikely... hopefully!) then that would be a CCJ (civil court/county court judgement) and not criminal therefore wouldn't come up. So I think it should be okay... just wanted to double check on here!

If its an enhanced DBS check (most detailed one) like in my case, if the police WAS involved and I had a penalty fine from them or whatever, there's a chance they might disclose that if they find it relevant... luckily for me no police was involved so I should be okay. If you're worried apparently you can ask to see what they have on you and get a copy of that information to see but I'm unsure how you'd go about doing that or if you did do that it would come across as suspicious haha

subs93 it is easier if you keep queries about your case on your own thread.

As the police were not involved there will be no record to show up on any DBS check, enhanced or not.

Sorry, just wanted to add on to what LM6383 was saying as I had the same concern. Will stick to my thread from now on! Thanks for the reassurance.

Hi there, can I get an update on the situation a year on? What has happened after ignoring letters from rpl? I am in the very much same position as of today and your help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Hi DES8, even though in the situation where police was not called or involved, but the store said they will be forwarding information to the police, will this impact / show up on a DBS check? Thank you for your time and input!

Hi beagleowner, welcome
Have the police contacted you?
When was the incident?
It is quite possible that the store did not bother to involve the police.
Standard DBS checks show details of spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings held on police records.
Enhanced DBS checks show the same information as standard checks, plus any additional information held by local police considered relevant to the role in question.

Shall I reply to the letter that I have been sent by RLP civil recovery specialist to explain my case or shall I ignore it?

Ignore it
RLP send out these letters , hoping a certain percentage will be frightened into paying their unwarranted demands.

If you respond to their letters, we have found it only encourages them to increase their pressure to get you to pay.
Just ignore them, but if you have any concerns post up here again
