My step daughter was recently caught shoplifting in response and I'm a bit concerned how they dealt with the situation. They basically said we had to pay £60 which was double the amount of the goods stolen and it was paid into a charity but had no confirmation or written documentation to say that this is their policy she just had to sign her name in a book and was banned from there for 1 month just wanted to know if this is correct

Re: Tesco shoplifting
She was asked to pay £60 at the point of her detention by the stores security team? Or did she subsequently receive a letter demanding money from another company?"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

I would complain bitterly that their staff are acting as judge and jury. If the goods were recovered then there has been no loss at all.

Re: Tesco shoplifting
Not come across this before, I guess we'll need to ask Tesco if it's a new procedure? Hmmm Dear Tesco - are you operating a Kangaroo Court in your stores? Have your staff been trained to do this and why?"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. Re: Tesco shoplifting
Well no police were called they just made her pay £60 on the spot they said they take the value of the goods round it up then double it. So the goods were worth £28 so they rounded it to £30 then doubled it and said that it goes into a charity tin and all she did was sign a book we had no paperwork confirmation of the payment nothing

Re: Tesco shoplifting
@Nats34 - I am talking to Tesco direct about this because it is so previously unheard of. Can you let me know in which Tesco store this happened and on what date please?
