not as far as I know (I could be wrong tho') ... I bet their insurance premiums are lower as a result of having RLP staff (as Charity suggested) and that makes it worthwhile :noidea:

Since RLP took a case to court in 2012 and lost does anyone know if they have tried since or indeedy been successful - I know you are all reassuring me but you know - I am usually the unlucky one in life - are RLP backed by any statue in law.

      Thanks all appreciate your support

It would have to be the shop itself that took you to court, not RLP (as it's the shop that suffered the loss) ... afaik they (RLP) have not put their name to a court claim and carried it through since . They might threaten (with silly legaleze words printed in scary RED inked capital letters) to take it further, they might try to get a debt collector to convince you to pay (again with silly legaleze words printed in scary RED inked capital letters), but I doubt they'd dare to actually try court again themselves for fear of being ridiculed

Have you actually read the RLP judgement??

Yes I did thanks to your link on here but wondered say them then their debt collectors try - would they ever revert this back to boots for them to pursue a legal claim? On the sheet of paper included with the letter called "frequently asked questions" it says "The law allows for a civil claim to be issued for up to 6 years after the incident, but if your case arises from theft, the law allows up to 15 years to bring a claim" ?

It also says under the question/answer " What will happen if I ignore Your Correspondence" -
"If the claim is not settled it WILL be evaluated and returned to client ( I presume boots) with advice on the merits of issue of proceedings. If proceedings are issued this COULD result in increased liability due to Court costs, interests and costs.

              Re: Shoftlifting at Boots

As everybody has advised already, and as you highlighted in post 50, this is par for the course.
They are past masters at pressurising people by a clever use of legalese.
Why would they bother to mention that the limitation period for incidents involving theft is 15 years and not the normal 6 years?
Are they really going to wait 14 years 6 months before bringing a case?
Of course not, If a case is to be brought it will be within weeks/months.
Will Boots bring a case for £265.00 (a figure dreamed up by RLP)? If they did, and it was defended, their unrecoverable costs would exceed their recovery?

Interesting to note that RLP's latest "UPDATE ON COURT CASES" finishes at May 2012 (says it all really)

Recovery from "offenders" is quite a small part of loss prevention, so Boots will actually be paying for RLP's "expertise" in other parts.
I doubt Boots actually receive more than a very small proportion (if any) from any recoveries made
