Re: RLP civil recovery, letter received. NEED ADVICE PLEASE

To be honest Unhappy1 ... this letter isn't actually that bad (considering how stroppy rlp can get :lol

Will you be getting your post forwarded when you move?

I still think that you have nothing to worry about in regards to them taking you to court ... they haven't since losing a case (as ostell has said)

No I won't be getting my post forwarded as the RLP are the only company which have this address for me. Because they have given me a chance to explain myself should I write an apologetic letter and mention my antidepressants? If I do this will they not ask for money? I'm scared I'm going to get in to more trouble if I ignore them...also I can't afford to pay the money they will ask for as I am a student.

I think you should just ignore it ... IMO, if you write back, they'll continue to harrass you (even more so than they are likely to at the moment)
You have learnt your lesson, you were not (by the sounds of it) charged by the police, the goods were returned in a saleable condition. Put it down to experience and file the letter in the bin where it belongs :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Re: RLP civil recovery. Caught shoplifting. Help please

RLP are trying to soften you up before trying again to get some money out of you, money they are not entitled to, and also confirm, if you reply, that you are still at that address. After you were stopped no doubt the goods were taken off you so the store have lost nothing so what have they got as a basis for a claim to take you to court? There was no loss by the store and the security staff were doing the work they were paid for so there was no loss there. The only time you can be fined is if you are taken to a criminal court. The only people who have the power to do this would be the police, not the retailer nor RLP. Have you heard any more from the police? They could have made an informal decision that no further action was necessary as you appeared to have learnt your lesson and wouldn't do it again.

There are references to the Oxford case in forum entry #10 earlier. I suggest you read these. You may even laugh at it.

The police man wrote my parents address on his notepad as that was the address on my ID but the address that the RLP have is for the flat which I am moving out in a few months. If the policeman has my parents address on his notepad will this be passed on to the RLP to help track me down if I don't reply?

I wasnt charged by the police , they did an ID check and wrote my parents address and my current address down on a notepad and then left. I'm scared they are going to peruse me and even worse send letters to my parents address and take me to court (I can't let my parents find out about this) I'm very scared.

You weren't charged ... the police can't give your details to rlp without a court order telling them to!

im so stressed and scared, I need reassuring 100% cause I'm constantly thinking about it
RIP can only pursue you in the form of a civil claim.. "Working with you" By stripping money off you hardly "works with you" in my book..
I would write back and tell them politely that you will defend any claim (if they try it that is) and desist from their attempts at speculative enrichment....

I wouldn't even bother writing to them tbh ... they are bullies and not worth it

Oh no, now I'm getting someone telling me to reply to the letters! I'm so confused and stressed. People are saying ignore and now someone has advised me to reply. I just want this to be forgotten. I'm not a criminal. I made one mistake. I'm in my final few months of uni and have a dissertation and exams to revise for. This is stressing me out so much.

Look they have a long track record of this.... Rip the letters up and go do your exams...... They can't do anything, they will huff and they will puff then they will move off to anyone else they can send their letters too... Look just post up any of the stuff they send we will keep an eye on it... Sounds Fair? :tongue2:

I'm sorry if I seem pathetic but this was just so out of character. And now I'm worrying about the fact that I'm moving out in a few months and I'll get tracked down and taken to court.
Once I move out I won't be in receipt of any letters from RLP so I will be unaware if they want to take further action.
I don't know if this is a good thing? Is there any way they can find me? I just need reassurance as this is taking over my life and affecting my work at uni.

They would have to serve you a claim they simply can't bugger off and take you through the courts with their bits of paper... That would be something by recorded, and they won't as they would have to prove such a loss.... Sometimes you just need to close the book and move on..........

Hi, i still have not replied to the letter from RLP but i failed to mention that i was made to sign a community resolution form from the police.
does this make a difference with ignoring the RLP? if i keep ignoring will the police become involved because i signed this form?
