  • Primark shoplifting

Hi. I got caught for shoplifting about £260 pounds worth of item at primark. Police were involved but I was given a community warning which means I wasn’t arrested but it was on record. Primark said they’ll send me a letter with the fine stated. How much do you think it’ll be and what’s the consequence if I don’t pay. I’m a first time offender, I don’t have such money and I don’t want my family involved please.

Did Primark get back from you all of the £260 of goods? Were they all unopened and in original condition so that Primark could put them back in the shop and sell them as normal?

If so Primark have lost nothing and you do not owe them anything.

Primark cannot "fine" you. Only a court can issue fines if you had been prosecuted and convicted but you already know that isn't going to happen. As far as the criminal justice system is concerned this matter is closed.

Please read some of the other threads on this forum, the 'Civil Recovery - Retail Loss Prevention' forum. You will receive letters from a company called RLP who are employed by Primark to send out invoices claiming you have to pay a contribution to Primark's administrative costs. Their letters usually try to get you to pay £175 - £200.

Our advice is to ignore these letters. Do not reply. You do not have to pay these invoices.

When you receive their first letter post a copy on here after covering up all personal information that could identify you ( including dates and RLP reference numbers). It could be a month or more before you hear from them.
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.
