  • Caught shoplifting in Superdrug, need advice

    Hi all,

First off, I'm extremely remorseful and ashamed of my actions.

I was caught yesterday in Superdrug concealing a few items, but I had not yet attempted to leave. I'm pretty sure it was all on CCTV. The store operative saw this, and asked me if I had anything on me, to which I admitted I did (initially with one item, then relented and confessed to a couple more, worth a total of £16), and I was asked to show my bag/pockets, to which I complied. They noticed that I had another skincare product that I had from a different store, and confiscated it due to belief that it was taken from their store. They asked for receipts/Bank statements, but I had none. I said that I'd be happy to pay for the items, and was lead to the till where I paid with card. I don't think I was told anything further, such as that I was banned from the store, but I certainly will not be returning, or repeating the offence.

My question is, what could happen next? I don't think that this will be escalated to the police, but I'm absolutely petrified, and have no idea. Will they do anything with the CCTV, such as share this with nearby stores? Or my bank card information? This was in a shopping mall, btw. Thank you.

    Hi SillyBilly

    Welcome to LB

First calm down, if you are struggling there is help out there.

Will they do anything with the CCTV, such as share this with nearby stores?

I doubt it, if you want to 'test' it,, just go into a nearby store, all they will do is ask you to leave.

    Or my bank card information?

They can't do that as that would breach data protection principles.

You may may get speculative invoices, don't panic as there might be several.

Post on the thread if you do.

I am not clear from your post if they even asked for your name and address and ID. Did they?
