  • Missing delivery

Hi .. after some advice .. I had an online order to be delivered via DPD. I changed the delivery date so I could be home to receive it. Their email said they’d get a photo in an open doorway instead of a signature and I did not choose to have the parcel left in a safe place or neighbour. You have to explicitly choose if you want this. On the day they never arrived or so it seemed but I now have a photo with the parcel near a door, no door number or any- just a doormat
was an expensive parcel about £750. I’ve asked all the neighbours but no one said they have the parcel. I know that my contract is with the retailer and really onus is on them to ensure delivery. Retailer said they spoke to DPD and they said they’re gonna get the driver to come back and fix this. I’m worried for two reasons - first is that I need a refund or a replacement and 2. I don’t want delivery drivers knocking on my door and asking me about the parcel- I was once assaulted by a delivery driver because I would not let him tailgate me into a he building and now I’m just afraid that something similar might happen if they deduct the money from him (& no the cops did nothing - was not major enough for them to investigate)
I’ve been seeing a lot of social media posts about parcels going missing etc and being dumped outside houses especially at this time of the year as well
Any advice will be gratefully received

    Hi CoffeeBreak

    Welcome to LB

    a) I’m worried for two reasons - first is that I need a refund or a replacement and

How did you pay? Credit Card / Debit Card?

    b) I don’t want delivery drivers knocking on my door and asking me about the parcel- I was once assaulted by a delivery driver because I would not let him tailgate me into a he building and now I’m just afraid that something similar might happen if they deduct the money from him.

Is there any CCTV around the delivery address?, that would show the parcel being left. You could have other people with you when the delivery driver attends.

      Hi

      Thanks for your reply
Sadly there’s no CCTV so all we have is the word of the delivery driver and a photo that shows the parcel being left on the floor with carpet and a doormat
The photo looks similar to my apartment block but it’s hard to tell - there is no door number that’s visible on the photo
I paid by credit card so I guess that should take care of my refund problem
I don’t know if the delivery driver will ever come knocking or any specific date and time - I suppose I could just refrain from opening the door

If you paid by Credit Card, then you can make a Section 75 claim with your card provider, you'll need to provide evidence.
The Retailer (they'll need to obtain it from the delivery company) will need to do the same. Section 75 claims are time sensitive,
        so don't delay.

        Yep, 'don't answer' the door.

I would be very surprised if a delivery driver would ever come to.your door or anyone else's to investigate this. What's the likelihood that a delivery driver, especially at this busy time of year, is going to have any recollection of what he did with any particular cardboard box a week or more ago.

Just let DPD get on with doing whatever they need to do. The seller won't refund while DPD are still investigating and they need to be allowed reasonable time to do that.

My experience is that sometimes delivery drivers 'game' their companies' systems, which put them under huge and often unrealistic pressure to complete a route, by reporting an item as delivered but actually delivering it the next day. You posted on Friday 12 December. It may just be that you get your item today, Monday 15th. I'll keep fingers crossed for you.
