On Wednesday my sister got caught stealing stuff from TKMAXX but I was with her so we both got taken to the naughty room by the RLP security guard and he asked my age and I said 17 when in actually 18 (my sister is 12).
He said he won't call the police if I give him my dad's number so I did.
My dad came over and we had to sign a 12month banning notice and got told we would recieve a letter from the RLP about a fine.

I don't want my mum finding out so I'm literally keeping an eagles eye on the postbox everyday.
She would never let it go and it genuinely terrifies me - the thought of her knowing.

How long do they take to come usually?
I've seen posts where some people say 2 days, others say a week and one even said 6 weeks!

Will I get in trouble for saying I was born in 2002 when I'm actually 2001 (I lied that I was 17 not 18)???

What is the likelihood I will get a criminal record?

I'm terrified as I am a good person and I've never broken the law and I do volunteering, I work, I study and have university aspirations... This might affect all of that and stuff like car insurance. I'm really stressing.

Thank you for reading. Hope to hear from someone soon.

If the police weren't called then no criminal record

RLP have no authority to issue fines, only courts have that.

Do not pay their so called "Fine", nothing will happen, other than more letters which will eventually stop. Their is a collection of their letters on this site

They did try, once, to take someone to court for a similar incident but got laughed out of court.

So, do shoplifters essentially go unpunished?

Obviously not that I want to shoplift, by all means no! I just really hope this was a lesson for my sister.

If it was really serious case then yes they would be punished. As it was TKM then the articles would be of low value anyway. No doubt your sister is suitably chastised by the experience.

Tell mum about the incident to clear the air. Perhaps 48 hours of hell but then she will be supportive.

search for RLP Oxford to find the case and gave a read
