  • Please help - Nowhere else to turn

    Hello all,

Please bear with me for a bit of a long story.

I bought a car at the end of Jan from an independent car dealer. The car was taken out on finance.

At the time of the purchase, the car had a known fault reg. the DPF filter which the dealer said he will fix for me the week after and that it will take a few days at the most.

I agreed and signed the papers and drove away.

A week later, dropped the car off and waited patiently. By the end of 5 days the car was not done. The mechanic would not speak to me and the dealer was giving me vague answers regarding the status. I was repeatedly told "it'll be done tomorrow" over and over..and now we are two weeks in and I still don't have the car.

I got really frustrated because anytime I pushed the dealer he became extremely rude and aggressive towards me. So I raised this complaint with the finance company and asked them to investigate for me if possible. Because I was without a car, with no real information and a constantly increasing "time of fix".

Today, the dealer called and said the car will be ready this evening hopefully. A few moments later the finance company contacted me saying they've contacted the dealer in reg. my complaint.

A few minutes after, the dealer called me back. He demanded to know why I complained and stated "I have NO right to contact them". I got frustrated and told him i've been patient and he's taking a long time to fix an issue which shouldnt take more than a few days. I should also mention, it took them a week to get me a courtesy car and even that was slightly faulty.

The dealer became more aggressive and went on to say "What more do you want? we gave you a car why are you complaining, you don't have any right to complain" He then started shouting and abusing me down the phone and I said I don't wish to deal with them, I'll speak to the finance company and he said "come give us our car back and take your piece of shit" and hung up.

Now I'm stuck. Not only am I stressing out pretty badly, I also feel unsafe and uncomfortable speaking to this dealer. I spoke to the finance company and they said they cant do anything until I get the car back.

I don't want to call the dealer and hear more abuse. They still have my car and I don't know what else they will do to it. I don't know when to pick it up and they have been extrremely intimidating, aggressive and rude today to the point where I no longer feel safe.

Can anyone please tell me what I can do?

    Hi Welcome to LB,

Personally I would be making a complaint to Trading Standards asap.
Is the person you are dealing with the owner of the dealership?

      Hi

It is a small time dealership, family run. I know because once the guy I was speaking to hung up, I got another call from the "manager" with identical behaviour.

I've already raised one complaint and they have responded with threatening/rudeness/abuse and they still have my car. So I really am clueless as to what I should do here.

Once I have my car back THEN I will gladly take it to trading standards, but the dealer is clearly lying straight through his teeth and accusing me of things I never agreed to/said.
