  • Laws for a Minor accused of shoplifting in Tesco uk

Hi, My Grandson who is 14, was accused by a Tesco Manager of Shoplifting, he was detained by the Manager for between 45-60 minutes and was not allowed to call anyone not even his parents or a suitable adult, he was shouted at to shut his mouth every time he tried to say something, the CCTV clearly shows that he did not steal anything, the Police was not called and I have received emails from Tesco Head Office as I complained to the office of the CEO which clearly states that the manager conducted this matter wrongly, My Grandson has no reason to steal as he is being brought up in the correct way, no further action has been or going to be taken by Tesco as he never did steal. My Grandson was very upset when his Grandmother went to meet him after he telephoned us to explain what happened, under Civil Rights Can we Sue Tesco for the way my Grandson was treated. Kind Regards

I think you should make a formal complaint to the CEO ... you have been emailing him and have written 'proof' that the manager did things wrong, therefore you require restitution for it. The store in question (IMO) had no right to hold your grandson for ANY length of time without adult supervision and the way he was treated (from your post) is just wrong. Tesco need to put this right. Personally I would demand at least a written apology for your grandson (from the staff members involved) and also they should be 'punished' for the way they treated him.

It might be an idea to see if your local MP would be willing to ensure you are heard etc...

You're more than welcome :tinysmile_twink_t2: I think it is absolutely disgusting that Tesco have acted the way they have.
