:tinysmile_cry_t: The other week I saw an ad while online for a free trial of raspberry ketone. I was. Under. The impression that all I was going to be charged for was post and packing. This morning on checking my account I found they had taken £92.78 without my knowledge. There was never any mention that this money would be taken. (I suppose they are too damn crafty) this to me is taking money under false pretences. I have contacted these people by email and have advised them that if they dont refund the money I will take the matter to trading standards. In my opinion these people. Need stopping! Any help and advice will be much appreciated.

      Hi Welcome,

This is a familiar complaint I'm sorry to say!

A Formal Complaint insisting on an immediate refund e-mail is not likely to work so snail mail letter and the "better threat "
is a report to the Financial Conduct Authority.

You will have to push hard.

You can also demand that your bank does an immediate charge back to your debit card, the bank cannot refuse to do this.

Ah be careful! When you emm signed up for your 'free' trial of this product you might have 'agreed' to pay a standing order for the vendors to send more of your 'free' product so you might find this keeps happening! You need to take this up with your bank asap if thats where the money was taken from.... I seem to remember such happening before with the 'agreement' tucked away somewhere in amongst the other on screen crap.
        Do NOT be complacent! :tongue2:

Which company was it? There are a few that have extra T&Cs (small print) just under the 'accept free trial' button saying they'll debit your account after the 14 day (?) trial if they don't hear from you :tinysmile_cry_t:

tell bank to block debit card immediately or it could be taken again the next month & therafter

            http://ketoneadvanced.org.uk/terms-conditions/

You must contact customer service before the end of the 14-day trial period to cancel and avoid further charges.
If you do not cancel, Company will charge £94.97 on the day your trial period ends for the trial product you have received to the card you provided at checkout and you will continue with the auto delivery program

            2. AUTO HOME DELIVERY PROGRAM
Unless you cancel, the auto delivery program will begin shipping you a fresh one-month supply of the product about 30 days after your trial order period has ended and every 30 days thereafter. When each month’s supply ships, Company will automatically charge the monthly fee of £94.97 plus £6.95 postage and packing to the card you provided when you signed up for the trial offer. You may cancel your enrolment in the auto delivery program at any time by contacting customer service.

            13. NEGATIVE OPTION CLAUSE
I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS CONSUMER TRANSACTION INVOLVES A NEGATIVE OPTION, AND THAT I MAY BE LIABLE FOR PAYMENT OF FUTURE GOODS AND SERVICES UNDER THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT FOR £94.97 + £6.95 SHIPPING AND HANDLING PER MONTH IF I FAIL TO NOTIFY THE SUPPLIER NOT TO SUPPLY THE GOODS OR SERVICES DESCRIBED, OR FAIL TO RETURN THE PRODUCT UPON CANCELLATION.

Just Google "free trial scams" to see how widespread the problem is.
Here's another site (picked at random) discussing the problem: http://www.moneywise.co.uk/scams-rip...ee-trial-scams

Without being funny, this problem will only go away when people stop giving their bank details away. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

"Free" dial with bank details provided = a very costly mistake!

Hi I have just spoken to my bank Halifax who say they're very aware of the problem. I asked them to charge the. £92.78 back to my card this they have refused saying that Ketone would decline. they. Have blocked my card so at least. no more money can be taken by Ketone. I have also spoken to Ketone (my bank gave me a couple of numbers). They have received my email and they also refuse to refund the money. The pompous little squirt i spoke to said it was clear about the 14 days I told him bull cr*p! I asked him to refund the money again during the call withou any further delay I ended the call. I am now going to go to the FCA.

The Bank cannot decline your request unfortunately many bank staff are unaware if this and spout the old company script.
Was the card covered by Visa?

Director of retail banking or similar title would be best.

It is an unauthorised payment and could even be construed as taken by deception imo.

I had a similar experience with Amazon, with a one off "Free Next Day delivery" and within a couple
of days £79.799 was taken from the card I had used to pay for the item ordered, this was a 1year sub
to Amazon Prime which I later saw was automatically taken if I used the free service.
NW refunded same day as I requires the charge back.

Hi I lodged a complaint today on Halifax's site regarding Ketone. Just had a telephone call to say they were refunding the £92.78 and £30 to say sorry that the department I spoke to on Friday did nothing to help. I am a happy bunny. They said Ketone will have 45 days to dispute the refund somehow I don't think they will get very far with that as Halifax along with other banks and trading standards are aware of what they are doing. Trading Standards are going to get legislation brought in over these scams. Rosie500

There's an article on the Daily Mail website today concerning Amazon Prime. It's amazing how many people don't read the small print. It's worth spending just a couple of extra minutes reading the T&C's.
