  • Car repair

We brought a Nissan Qashqai 60 plate from a car superstore last January, and from day one with had problems with it, the day we brought the car it broke down on the way home so we returned it the same day and they said fault was fuel filter which they replaced, since then it made a very loud whopping noise hence the car been return to the car superstore on many occasions for them to find fault which they couldn't, just kept replacing parts but noise still there, as we brought a extended warranty with the car, we finally got permission to take it to Nissan main dealer, who've have said they fixed the problem which was fuel filter, when said that's all ready been replaced they said not with a genuine Nissan part, as if genuine part had been fitted wouldn't of had this fault for last year, thing is main dealer now want paying big bucks for the repair, the warranty group say don't cover filter as wear and tear, and car superstore said not there fault as had car over a month.... So where do we stand as now got pay Nissan to get our car back

    Re: Car repair

Have you kept proof of the many returns to the dealers who originally sold the car? Will the main dealers supply you with a written report?
You could possibly sue in County Court either under the Sale of Goods Act (not of satisfactory quality) or under Supply of Goods And Services Act.(supplied a part [filter] not of satisfactory quality).

      Re: Car repair

it is unlikely it is just from a non gen part but more likely that it was poor fiting and not replacing the seals letting air in. that said it could be a fake or wrong part fitted but i would go to trading standards either way and tell them first your going to report them most of the time they change there tone very quickly. it would not be coverd under warranty normaly but you may ba able to claim that it was faulty work done under the 30 day warranty that had to be fixed and there for car superstore is at fault there for they have to pay the bills. as you have had the problem from day one and they have tryed fixing it they have in effect extended the 30 day each time they have tryed to fix it for you for free as all work should come with a 30 day warrenty as minimum. or at least it was the case when i fixed cars for a living with volvo

As Chaz suggests reporting to Trading Standards might get them to change their minds.
I wouldn't get caught up in whether or not the work was carried out under warranty. Warranties are in addition to your rights under consumer law and that is what you would rely on in court.
The car dealers supplied a vehicle which was faulty when supplied.
They were given many opportunities to repair the vehicle, which they failed to do.
Eventually it was agreed the vehicle should go to main dealers.
Main dealers diagnosed and corrected faulty original repair.
Obtain written report from main dealers if possible.
Filters may be subject to wear and tear, but the problem here was not wear and tear but faulty part/faulty fitting.

I'm surprised at your comment that Nissan dealers want "big bucks". Could you post up details of their account (first redacting identifying details)? Fuel filter replacement is normally quite easy.

most ofv the main dealers cost will be labor as it is a case now of pluging it in to the computor and seeing what that says and computors will not be able to find air leaks in fuel syteam only years of know how will help there. the way they train macanics naw is more like fitters. so a lot of trial and error happens and we have to pay for all that

collected the car yesterday from the main dealers bill wasn't as bad as excepting only £225
But they not sure if will cure the problem, as the car didn't make noise while they had the car, but it should do

                  Re: Car repair

from the sound on the clip i would say it is one of two things if you have the climate control on and it makes or changes the noise it is the air con gas pumping around but i think that the most likely is the fuel pumping from the tank has to be at a contant pressure to do this is pumped at a high pressure to the engine and maintained by a pressure valve that allows fuel to get pumped back to the tank. it is that valve working that you can hear air in the system can also be removed by this valve but as the air go though the valve it alows the valve to close qicker and undamped and there for noiser. it could even just be that the valve is old and week but still works.
some time air in the heating system can make the same noise as well. it may just be one of those noises that cant be fixed and is there on all that model. that is a problem with new cars they are to quite and you hear every thing

in that t-bar there is a one way valve that can make a noise but it would not be enough on its own to be the noise on the clip
