  • Penalty Discrimination.

I know of a case where a man and a woman, both aged 27 and both single were caught on a joint shoplifting spree. The woman had £790 worth of stolen goods on her and the mad had £280 worth of stolen goods on him. In both cases it was their second offence of this kind as the man had previously been convicted for stealing a battery razor worth £17.80 and the woman had been convicted of stealing a coat worth £299. both in 2012. Yet despite the fact that the man stole goods of a much lower value, he was given a prison sentence but she was only given a small fine and Community sentence Order of a short period of unpaid work.

I do not know these people but could the man claim gender discrimination? If not, does this not mark the end of the gender equality laws for both men and women? I am a strong supporter of all forms of equality but this seems like gender inequality in high places. If it were the woman who received a higher sentence for a lower level crime there would be a national outcry.

    Re: Penalty Discrimination.

Any reason for posting a similar thread to your last one?
As stated before without knowing the full facts about the offenders hard to make a case for discrimination
