  • Police fail to act...and now more damage.

I recently found some strange multi lined scratches on my car, also the day before I witnessed a young lad (12) using a small hand saw cutting down branches of council owned trees, this was outside my house so I used my phone to record him sawing these trees.

Next day I notice scratches on my car...I did not immediatly think of the sawing incident and was just mad about it,I am ill and heavily medicated too so dont always think so quick.I rang the Police 101 service and the next day a local policeman rang me (sunday)...He said he would come to visit me on the wednesday and even take the lad to the station if the lads family was not playing ball,as I had already told the lads father of the incident and they had time to deal with it by then.

That was weeks ago and I have heard nothing since, the PC originaly rang on a private number so I cannot ring him to remind him of what he said about coming weeks ago.And now, as the local kids obviously think i am a lier about my threats of police involvement, more scratches have appeared,I need my vehcle as I am disabled but with this all I want to do is get rid off it...I blame the police , if I was not so ill I would of by now weeks later have confronted the lad or his father and no doubt I would be getting arrested...I cannot help but think I should have just dealt with it myself,an eye for an eye type of thing...Lancashire Police are useless,I have the evidence,a suspect, and even a reason as this is the one kid in years i have had to (politely I must add) tell to stop kickin a ball against my house, but no they are too busy stopping motorists at local census check points....I am not happy and need to know what I can do,if I complain to the officer I can see him just saying not enough eveidence goodbye, where as before the officer seemed to want to help...I would appreciate any advise please.

If you ring back on 101 there should be a "Log Number" which they can find if you tell them the date you originally called them, that will tell them which officer is dealing with it and you should then be able to contact him.

Have you got any evidence that connects the sawing of the tree with the scrathes on your car?

All I have as evidence is Saw made like scratches (I am a builder and the scratches are saw made) and video of this boy with a saw 24hours before I noticed the scratches...the scratches are not done in a hateful way that would suggest an adult,it is as if the saw was tested on my vehcle rather than an attempt to deface it or for a hate of me or something, policeman agreed it sounds like a kid thing and thinks like me that its this lad and what with the video and time of damage, he beleives it was him too and on the phone said if he does not coperate then he will be recieving a caution down the station.
I will take your advise and ring 101 again as I have no choice it would seem, but dont want to become a hassle to the police and just be fobbed off with lack of evidence to act ect.

I have read this thread and have to say I am disgusted with the couldn't-care-less attitude of the police. And I am a retired policeman!

Firstly, what is a young lad doing cutting down branches from trees that are the responsibility of the local authority? Secondly, Lancashire Police really do need to remember their duty is to uphold the law and that they must discharge their duties in accordance with the law, not issue crime reference numbers and fob people off.

Thanks Bluebottle for the support....It is actually worse than I first wrote...the young lad had been given the saw by a man who is stealing council land, the lads father told me this when I let him know of my concerns. The branches were used to build a barrier around the base of a tree...I suspect poison has been laid to kill the council owned tree so this man can claim more land as his garden...All this I told to the policeman I spoke to.The policeman did say that branches are not considered criminal damage,it would need to be the whole tree...not that I or the policeman know exactly what was cut down.

I was going to ring 101 again but I am now thinking this may agrevate the situation more if the policeman is too busy to act and writes my case off...eventually they must contact me again,I hope...and then hopefully they then will carry on as planned and act by cautioning the lad...I am scared to complain or even raise my voice for fear of "not enough evidence, case closed" type of thing...I am disgusted with there ways, they promote confrontation and the possibility of further crime with there lack of responce.

I will 100% contact the police complaints people and my MP when this matter is dealt with,if ever it is.
Also I should add...I have no criminal things at all to my name, the police do not know off me already at all, they have no reason to dis-like me .

It might be worth mentioning this matter to your local ward councillors, especially if it could impact on the council's duties and rights in respect of the land this person is trying to grab. The local authority should have enforcement powers they can use to stop this.

The policeman telephoned me last week and i missed the call,he left a message from a privete number yet again saying he was about to close the case, which did knock me back a bit, this happened the day before i spent a day in hospital, I was very ill that week and just could not handle contacting him just then...now today I feel I can deal with this again, but as nothing has happened now for weeks and its winter ,so all the kids are indoors all the time around here...I dont know if I want to dig this up again...being ill and dealing with this issue does me no good...and I am hoping to recieve some compensation in the near future from my med neg claim so as i can move house to a bungalo ...so unfortunately the criminal wins and justice gets spat on,thanks entirely to the delay and unproffessional ways of Lancashire Police...but still i will soon inform every higher up the ladder person possible, of the failings and wrong doings of this policeman.

Depending on the rank of the police officer involved, I would start by going to their Station Superintendent as a starting point.
