  • Money taken from bank acc

    Hi all
mi have just seen a bank statement and credit expert has been taking money for the last year or so

the Other half went to sign up but didn't
we just logged on with her details and it says her 30 day trial will start now
i queried it with the bank and they said that they don't need all the card details to take the money

my question is she had a new card in feb with differ t card number and the 3 didget number had changed as well so should the bank have stopped the payments ??

No, the numbers on the new card will tie in with your wife's account.
You should cancel the debit payments and then contact Credit Expert and inform them that you have cancelled the debit payments and that you do not want to continue getting credit statements from them.
Do it either by email, or by recorded and signed for post. Costs under £2.00
Keep a copy of your letter and also the post office receipt.
Credit expert may try to charge you for any incomplete month.
You should also request details of when your wife's 'free month started and ended.
Ask also for a copy of their terms and conditions.
let us know how you get on

From memory when you sign up for the 'free trial' with Credit Expert or Experian there is a clause that says they will automatically start to take the monthly subscriptions after the free trial finishes unless you contact them to cancel before the end of the free trial.

Damn sneaky, but then anyone who works cheek by jowl with down and dirty DCAs is bound to be down and dirty themselves. If you lie with dogs you get fleas.

I don't think so. I don't think a new card even with new numbers would affect payments out of the account. Otherwise every time you changed your debit card all your Direct Debits would stop.

If the payments were from a Credit Card then I would expect the payment requests to an old card number to fail.

I can only conclude the payments were a Direct Debit on your bank account.

Direct debits I thought were acc number and sort code

Got to ring bank Monday and cancel any more payments to them

My wife had a new card with a new number and security number on it.
But it is linked, like the old card, to her bank account number.
              So payments keep getting paid.

Give them a call and complain that they have failed to cancel.

Can I cancel my membership or free trial online?

No, but you can email us at CustomerService@CreditExpert.co.uk to request cancellation. It can take up to 7 days to process your cancellation by email, so we’d suggest calling us instead.

Complain to the bank saying that they are obliged under the The Payment Services Regulations 2009 to cancel any payment authority their end and prevent any further payments being taken.

Or if it's a direct debt they must cancel it under the direct debit guarantee.

That the bank are are also obliged to refund any payments they have allowed to be taken after you first request that the cancel the payment authority.

                      See: http://paullewismoney.blogspot.co.uk...ts-racket.html

Don't take any excuses from the bank. If they tell you they can't cancel it then insist you talk to someone more senior, and tell them that you intend to make a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman.

0800 561 0083 (free phone) I think for Experian. They may well deny that you can cancel by email, but as you can see from that link it says in black and white on their website that you can.

With the bank, many staff can be completely in denial over your rights on this. Direct debit or CPA/

Sometimes you need to push and push, but as said ultimately you can take it to the FOS.
