Sorry but only the police and courts have the power to issue such fines, and they pay for the CPS and criminal courts.
Their is a good reason why RLP lost the test case - its because their claims are not supported in law!!Please note that this advice is given informally, without liability and without prejudice. And are there other security firms retailers could employ or is it just SIA?
The SIA is the statutory regulator for the private security industry. Boots use security companies to provide retail security. They do not employ them directly as some retailers do. Your parents should approach Boots in the first instance as regards the details of the security officer as the incident occurred on their premises.Life is a journey on which we all travel, sometimes together, but never alone.

Re: Letter from RLP after caught shoplifting from Boots
bluebottle, can I ask what rank you had when you were a policeman or how long you were? You don't have to answer it if you don't want to. I just wanted to know how well you know all this cuz it's the internet and you know how the school education system these days is making sure you dont trust anyone on the internet. Please don't be offended by this you've been a great help.

Re: Letter from RLP after caught shoplifting from Boots
hi
Why should they pay it. Seriously £147.50 where the retailer never incurred a loss.
Why should they pay it. Seriously £147.50.
The police and CPS are their for prosecuting
What you saying by stating they should pay, is that you support what is in fact a unlawful fine issued by a retailer and their puppet civil recovery company
I dont meen to be challange you here TB, i respect you, but the parent in me just took over.... sorry..crazy council ( as in local council,NELC ) as a member of the public, i don't get mad, i get even
