  • Voluntary termination, would love some advice.

    Hi all

I recently decided to VT an agreement I had for a Peugeot 207, the contract term was 37 months and the agreement was terminated at 30 months.

I arranged with the finance company to have the vehicle picked up and set a date for a vehicle inspector to call and pick up the vehicle.

When the inspector arrived I went round the car with him and he spent around 30 minutes checking every aspect of the car, he was extremely thorough. Whilst going round with the inspector I made sure to take pictures of each aspect of the car before it was driven away. (Something I'm now pleased about)

When the inspector had finished he confirmed that he thought the vehicle was in good shape and what he would expect for a two year old car. I checked the paperwork and he had noted 3 light scratches. I asked what he made of the scratches and he confirmed he felt the scratches would buff out easily. The inspector said the only thing he felt I could get charged for a scuff on the drivers side wheel trim. I checked the form over fully and signed.

Today I've received an invoice from the company selling the car on and they have listed £541 in damages. This was quite a shock considering the initial inspectors report.

    The damages state as below:

    2 x alloy wheel refurbs £55
    1 x dent on swage line £65
    2 x dent under 30mm no paint damage £50
    1 x front bumper scuff £15
    1 x poor previous panel repair n s quarter£200
    1 x poor previous paint respray n s quarter £156

    Total £541

Around a year ago I scraped the near side panel which was then repaired by my insurance company so I've spoke to them and they are prepared to look into the work. With regards to the other charges I'm really concerned. There was nothing other than a few light scratches put on the inspection form I signed and I took pictures whilst walking round the vehicle.

Can anyone help me understand where I stand with this? On the letter I received today there was a website listed. I've checked this out and it looks like the car is listed on an auction website so the work they have stated hasn't been done by them. So in theory they are invoicing me for work they will never carry out.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

    Thanks

    Victoria

It is not unusual for creditors t chance their arm in this way, you may wish to reply, stating that the car was in reasonable condition when returned as verified by their inspector. and as such you do not consider that you are liable for any of the costs.

Usually if you stick to your guns they will leave you alone eventually.

Thanks Andy, that's what I was thinking of doing, I've found the car on the auction website and with their high res pictures I still can't see any dints.

I did a VT on a BMW a few years ago, same as you took lots of pictures, two weeks later they sent me a bill for nearly £2k. I suppose some people would just pay it and that makes the exercise worth while for them.

Wow, that's horrendous! So glad I took pictures. Just have to stick to my guns now.

Totally agree - stick to your guns. They just don't like people who VT, especially one's who know their rights.

I doubt they could produce invoices if ever challenged to over this.

Thank you for the advice! Called them today and challenged the paperwork and made it clear I wouldn't be paying. They have decided there is nothing for me to pay! Thanks again

Yes well done. and of course if you had paid, they would have realized their mistake and refunded your money, not likely.
