  • cash converters staff stole my jewellery - result

    Hello all legalbeagle users,

I'm in a bit of a lost end whith cash converters. I put three rings in on a buy back, Two 18ct yellow gold wedding rings, and a 18ct yellow gold 1/2 ct diamond 18th centery ring on an 28 day buy back. When i come to pay for my items i came to find that the employee had been sacked due to theft. Cash converters had asked me if i could claim on my house hold insurance, which i declined. On the invoice it states that cash converters will pay on there insurance if it's out off there control. But they had told me it will ony be the vaule of what they payed to me, which is a sum of £50. I've now looked at the scrap value off the three rings, what come to around £777.00 with todays value, which again i told cash converters this, and they have still said that they are looking for a replacment. Would anyone know what i can do to resolve tis matter as it is now been two month's. No one from the head office, nor the store where i put the items in, seem not to be interested in sorting this out.

Any help with this would be grate. thanks for reading...

Have Cash Coonvertors got evidence of the theft? If they have, go to the police.

They must have evidence to have sacked the employee of stealing something, so the police may still be a viable route for you. Alternatively, I suspect you're looking at court proceedings. What evidence do you have that the rings were of the quality you say? (I'm not disbelieving you, I'm just wondering how you'd prove it). :beagle:

I had a invoice which i got from cc, The police hav a crime number and are looking into this. I went in yesterday and talked to the manager, and she then said to me that if i went through court, that she would state that all i put in was three ring but we don't know the value off them. I have a old insurance paperwork for one off the ring's which is valued very high. I said to the manager that the man who gave me the value at there shop did weigh and have a look at the diamond. But he didn't state on the paperwork what rings they where. All it says on the ticket is. Three rings. I have said to cc I'm not worryed about two of the ring, just the 18ct 1/2 ct diamond ring. I have asked about the cctv but again the manager said that it was del after 14 days. I run pubs and clubs and the cctv in all off them store cctv for four months, so i feel that I'm just being mucked about so they don't have to pay.

It sounds like they want you to do it their way. Can you not record what she is saying on a mobile phone and lead her to say they were valuable? Covert - yes. Legal? There's a discussion about that on another thread here at the moment. The recording itself is not illegal though as long as you don't play it to others.

So..if playing the recording to others is illegal,,what's the point of recording it??? (not being obtuse,I'm genuinely interested)

Because it may become legal if admitted as evidence by a judge.

Get them to admit this in writing.

Cash converters had asked me if i could claim on my house hold insurance ...
Would this have entailed you making a false or misleading statement to your insurers?

I have a old insurance paperwork for one off the ring's which is valued very high.
Does it give a detailed description? Do you have any photographs of the ring(s)?

This is the problem - you should be able to show that the rings for which you have the valuation were the same rings as those that you pawned. It seems that unless you can secure a damaging admission, you will be unable to do so.

If you sue, it will therefore come down to probability - who is most likely to be telling the truth. You lack the basic evidence, although there are some things in your favour. The police may also have a role to play, depending on whether the thief is charged, if he specifically admits (or Cash Converters themselves admit), that he stole the rings in question, and if he knew of their true value.

Conduct all future correspondence with Cash Converters in writing and deal only with their Head Office.
