  • Reclaiming old life assurance policies

Over the years I have had various policies which, for one reason or another (usually, lack of funds!), have jut sort of fizzled out.

I did try & reclaim one of them some years back, only to be told that it was a managed fund & was wiped out via the fees.

    Some questions.

    Was this just BS?

Due to my *ahem* filing system, I seem to have misplaced my copies - can I access the info somewhere?

Do I need to get independent financial advice?

    Evening!
Which broker did you buy the policies through? How long ago are we talking here?
No need to get independent financial advice right now.
It is possible that the funds were wiped out via the fees as managed funds can vary in cost, but, on what grounds are you trying to reclaim these old policies? There is nothing that says they have to refund your premiums if you didn't make a claim.

      Hi Kosenurm

Various brokers at various times for various products. (Not very helpful, I know!)

The 'biggest' would be via North Thames Gas (British Gas), probably 30 years ago! (Pension)

These documents will more than likely no longer exist, as not only has the company become a new entity since this time, you are well out of any sort of timeframe for claiming anything. Furthermore, as the funds were managed on behalf of other brokers/providers, there is even less chance of being able to reclaim. Sorry.
