    Assume for a second that the SORN issue is dealt with etc, what do I do now the dealer has shall we say "done a bunk"?

      If the dealer was operating as a limited company, look at Companies House (link) for the registered address.

      Also search the London Gazette (link) for a notice of winding up, liquidation or bankruptcy, as the jalopy might now belong to the official receivers.
