Cold call from Public Bureau...... Who????

This evening there was a cold call made to our landline, which my mother answered as i was having my late afternoon nap (hey we all need our beauty sleep!) The woman on the other end was claiming to be from a firm called Public Bureau and asking to speak to me. Now my mum said i was not available as i was... Well in the land of nod getting some well earned rest for the day. She never left message for me or said what the call was reguarding or anything, and unfortunately my mother never wrote the number down.

Anyway, as i had never heard of them, and the fact whole name Public Bureau sounded like it was purely a ploy used by another company to get past the person that answered the phone, to speak to the person they want to speak to, by making them sound like some sort of official public, or law enforcement body (Federal Bureau investigations for example), i did a search for the name on Google, and only company i could find was a clothing company called Public Bureau, which evidently the phone call was nothing to do with them as i don't particularly like or have any interest in wearing dresses. Other than that i found naf all about such company. No consumer issues where they are mentioned, or anything.

So was wondering if anyone here has had anyone referring to themselves as being from Public Bureau, and what or who they actually are?

in my past i had someome call me stating they were from the bureau of defaulters, turned out it was crappyquest i believe

dont say they are trying to resurrect that old dinaosaur, it must be 10 years since i have heard that name

might be the old nigerian boiler room scam as well

Ahh, well i do still have that one default on my file that is for capquest, i think. Even though the other defaults have been removed and the debt they alledge is mine when it was actually the unsolicited mobile phone that was sent to me, which lowell chased me for and then sold to capquest. Whom registered the new default even though lowells still had their default on my file, which now i have had removed. So it maywell be capquest.

Yeah 1471 was to late, as had other calls between that call and my mum telling me about the call. I keep telling her to get the numbers if anyone calls me, but she never does bless her lol.

The genuine Citizens Advice Bureau never cold call members of the public and never charge a fee for the advice they give. Never give your personal details or banking information to anyone who cold calls you.
Please contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 08454 040506 for advice or if you have experienced similar calls.


Theres about 7 cases of this nationwide.

Thanks Puffrose, thats certainly interesting to hear. Though i just wish i had been awake to take the call now, as it would have been very intersting conversation thats for sure lol!

i believe they were located in the old aktiv kapital building in stratford upon avon, aktiv kapital were going tits up so they sold the building to another solicitor for rent back then

Well i hope they call back again tomorrow, so i can find out who they are exactly and then start working on doing some digging and passing the info to the OFT's credit fitness team. If they are a scammer then there luck has ran out, and if they are capquest of another debt collector trying to inforce a debt that was for an unsolicited phone, or phone contract i never even had, then boy are they in for a good old kick up the arse!

Oh yeah i remember them Militant, god they are a blast from the past aren't they lol - Though they may very well be getting blasted back to the past by the time am done with them, if it is them or connected to capquest in anyway.

I love it when they realise just who i am though, they always tend to stutter end up not knowing what to say to me, as they know the slights wrong thing they say would mean i would come down hard on them lol - One certain person at MMF knows not to get my back up

I tell you what though, if they had insisted on my mother waking me up and if she had of done, i would have been saying a lot more than just a few profanities down the phone to them, that i can tell you for certain, as no body interrupts my beauty sleep lol.

Thanks Puff, though they look like they act for commercial debts, to me. So that being said, if they were chasing for a commercial debt it would be my company number they'd be calling on, though the company doesn't have any commercial debts or overdue payment to creditors. Though i suppose they could seek collection of debts from consumers too i suppose.

telegram was another scam they used saying they had an important piece of mail

Well leeds losers originally chased me for the unsolicited phone that was sent to me, before selling it to capquest to be honest.So am inclined to agree with you Militant that its likely crapquest.

If they call back tomorrow, i'll be asking them to call me on the work number so i can record the call and post it up on here lol.
