  • Doing a DSAR on the Police

Just thinking out loud on this one, i am registered with the Solicitors Regulatory Authority due to my degree course. Before I enrolled I had to be CRB, CREDIT, YOU NAME IT CHECKED. I know the police keep intelligence reports etc. I am talking in relation to my Trade Union duties and the TUC. I am not one for hiding my face as I am demonstrating under my democratic right to protest under article 10 of the Human Rights Act, right to free expression, and article 11, freedom of assembly, and that I have not broken any statutory laws. BUT no doubt I will have my details recorded some ware. YOU SEE THE COPPERS WITH THE CAM CORDERS ALL THE TIME, as well as images from CCTV. Its that info I am after, intelligence reports as I have no criminal convictions. ITS GETTING IT RELEASED MAY BE THE PROBLEM

To the best of my knowledge and belief, Miliitant, you can SAR the police for any information the police hold on you, subject to certain exceptions, mostly, where there is an active investigation in progress. You will need to send a SAR to the Chief Officer of each police force area where you attended demonstrations. Yeah, I know it's a pain in the arse, but that's the way it is at present, unfortunately.

The ones you see with video cameras are usually Criminal Intelligence or Special Branch officers, depending on where the demonstration is taking place and what it is about. The ones they are looking out for mostly are anarchist group activists, animal rights activists and the more violent elements associated with the BNP, e.g. Stalag 18, League of St George. Although they do monitor Searchlight (formerly the Anti-Nazi League), the police have now realised they are useful.
Life is a journey on which we all travel, sometimes together, but never alone.
