For registered land, the LR is the way.

However, a lot of land remains unregistered because it has not been subject to a 'trigger event'. Ownership of those properties can be very, very difficult to determine and often comes down to knocking on doors.

You could try the electoral register, check if the current occupants are the owners or tenants.

If it's an empty property, fill in a form for the LR with a fiver for admin, make sure you put the full address, or if its land, a map of the area with the plot marked out clearly.
