Hiya literally just been cold called by Virgo Home Improvements, who aparently are the sister company for Safestyle.

The Lack Of Customer Service agent told me he didnt know where he got my details, didnt know if he was MOJ registered or ICO registered but was sure they didnt have to be, and if i just told him if i had plastic or wooden guttering he would sort it!

I told him cold calling is illegal, and he told me it "doesnt apply to home improvements."

they are right they don't need to be MOJ authorised. But would most certainly have to have a registered data controller with the ICO.

Trouble is the cold callers often are just call centres and have a set patter to say and anything outside the box like asking them questions - they just aint going to know.

I was cold called this evening, they used my husbands middle name and our surname - I just told them that no one with that name lives here, the girl went on to try and sell me her wares lol, I just told her to remove our telephone number from their mailing list as no one by that name lives here. Bizzarre really that they had part of a name.

I was too tired to take note of the number although I remember it started 0151........ I would never buy from a cold caller and certainly not give them any personal details like confirming my name so end of story.

But well done Puff Rose for seeing them off with a flea in their ear.

Why you do not try some other destinations.I think your problem has solved.Cold calling is illegal thats right.

If you have registered your telephone number with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS), or have an ex-directory number or have previously made it clear to firms you do not want to be cold-called by them, then it is a breach of the Data Protection Act 1998 and, also, a breach of the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 for a company to cold-call such a number. And, yes, it is the ICO who kicks firms' butts if they transgress.
