  • Pet insurance

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is in the right place.
I am having to change pet insurance companies as Petplan are adding more and more on each year.[/font]

I have seen Vets Medi cover http://www.vetsmedicover.co.uk/home/ They are quite new only 3 years old but i havent seen any horror stories about them

Before i changed i needed to ask lots of questions about exclusions and in the end the Director of the company e mailed me and then rang me on his mobile.
This seems a bit odd to me as though its a tiny company.

How do insurance companies work? Do they pay out claims from their own money or do they claim from insurance? I am worried they may go bust as when i googled the owners name

Robert Amphlett along with the name Vets Medicover it comes up with previous businesses he has had which are no longer active but i cant work out what happened to them?

    http://company-director-check.co.uk/director/908909475

Can you understand what happened and do you think this company is ok?

I need to make sure the company i use offer at least 10k in vets fees per year covered for life not many do this.

      Re: Pet insurance

They are Great Danes so its easily acheivable to hit 10k. If you think how much an operation is for a person with regards to GA and medication, specialists etc Danes are the same they are easy the same size/weight as a person.
One of them used 8k last year.

Any ideas on this company Labman?

Do you know if this insurance company's policies are underwritten at Lloyd's of London and are subscribed to by Lloyd's syndicates? Also, are they authorised to conduct insurance business and issue policies? If not, avoid them like the plague and report them to the regulators asap.

No they are underwritten by White horse ltd.

Its such a minefield at the moment. They might be perfectly legit and its me worrying but i cant e put in the situation that it has gone bust or just closed like LLoyds/Halifax did with pet insurance

            Re: Pet insurance

You will need to check that White Horse Ltd are authorised to conduct insurance business and their underwriters are registered at Lloyd's of London. Go to Key Contacts - Lloyd's
. This will take you straight to the page of contact telephone numbers from which you can run a check on White Horse Ltd and this other company you mention.

Only two out of how many companies seems pretty good?

A few links to read. It seems to me that since they changed underwriters to White Horse they have got significantly better. If you google vetsmedicover reviews you get loads. The following start off terrible and get better, so don't be put off by the first couple!
