  • Invoice Scam?

Don't know if this will be of interest (haven't been on this site for very long) but I received what looks like a proper invoice from a company this morning asking for £298.68 VAT exempt. Looking at it closely it is for an Annual Fee for being on a website that I have never agreed to or heard of, in bold type it has a warning that failure to pay will result in cancellation and in very small letters underneath the document number it has "offer". I checked the company with Companies House webcheck and it was only incorporated in December last year. Have reported it to Consumer Direct who are passing the details to the OFT to investigate. We only have a small company with no money so I know exactly what and who I owe money to. I'm sure it's some type of scam but not sure if it is actually illegal as it does say Document Number (not Invoice) but can't help thinking some people could be conned by it.

Can you scan and post it up please? Remove all personal data first.

"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

Yep, this is a SCAM and has been doing the rounds for a number of years.

        Hi Megan,

Yep. Curlyben is on the ball, as always. It's a scam. You did the right thing reporting it to OFT via Consumer Direct. You may now receive a letter or phone call from your local Trading Standards Department asking for the invoice. Let them have it.

Hi Celestine, don't have a scanner, can fax it if that's any use?

At the company where I work we get a lot of these type of scam type invoice requests and boy do they look authentic, although mostly from abroad and say that they are subscriptions. I normally just file them under 'B' :beagle:
