  • Problems with Curry's over faulty laptop.......

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to let off steam regarding Currys and my HP laptop which developed a fault a couple of months after purchase. I'm not very techie-minded but basically the screen started blinking rapidly within moments of being switched on. The problem became increasingly bad so Mr Wops took it into the store where we bought it and they said before sending it away to be looked at they would reset it as this often resolves any issues........this seemed to work for a week or so then the problem became worse than ever so we returned it to our local store (not the one it was purchased from as we've now moved approx 200 miles from there) two weeks ago which was roughly three months since we bought it.

The guy in store seemed very helpful and although the problem (typically) didn't manifest itself whilst we were in the store, he filled out the required form and said it would be collected either the next day (Saturday) or else the following Monday. He said it could take up to 28 days to come back, but usually items are returned within two weeks. Fast forward two weeks to today and Mr Wops decided to check whether the repair was done and checked online with the 'knowhow' peeps that were fixing it. No luck there as they seemed to have no record of it, so he attempted to call Currys themselves - a total farce as you can't seem to get the actual store number - at which point he learned that the laptop had never been sent off but apparently is still languishing in our local store

They said it will now be collected on Sunday to be sent off for repair........and I guess I'll be at least another fortnight without my lappy

I realise there is little I can do (although I do feel like going into the store and shouting and screaming till they give me a refund, lol!), but just want a working laptop - I wish I'd bought another Mac now (as our main computer is) and if I get it back and it goes wrong again, I definitely don't want another HP

    Sorry, rant over!

    Hi nelliewops,

Someone else on here had a problem with Currys a short while ago (a telly, if I remember rightly).
Was given the run-a-round until they got the 'chief engineer' of Currys, John Browett (CEO of Currys) involved.
    It was soon sorted!
Perhaps someone more knowledgable could give a link to his email addy?

Straight forward, threaten them with legal action if they don't replace it and if they say no, then ask for the servicing address for legal action since they are in breach of SOGA since clearly the laptop is less than 6 months old and is faulty.

Thanks guys - that email addy would be most useful and definitely feel like threatening them with legal action over this.........but wasn't sure if they have the right to insist on repairing it (if they ever get round to it that is, lol!) before I can do so

        Thanks again,

              Thanks guys

Quick update - Against my better judgment I decided to give them a second chance to collect and fix it before I send the email to the CEO.........I know, I know, I'm stupid, but if it doesn't happen this time I'll definitely take action. Anyway, according to the online tracking service it has now been collected so at least it looks like something is happening! The guy OH spoke to on the phone last week reckoned it could be repaired and back at the store in 10 days, so watch this space.............
