  • Ordering Online from USA

I ordered some power tools online from USA and added a coupon code for free delivery, The order went ok and the money was taken from my account ($899) and had confirmation confirming the product, shipping and handling ....

    Product = $899
    Shipping and Handling = $240
    Grand total = $899

a few days later after the money had been taken from my account I received a email saying there was an error online and they wanted the shipping......after a long phone call to them, a manager then said they would honour the sale and would send it out but the next day I got an email from the manager saying my money has been refunded back and the order has been cancelled!

I have not been able to contact the manager and no emails have been returned.

I have lost £8 due to the exchange rate and have done nothing wrong

Is there anything I can do or just order them again (the error has now been fixed online) and take it on the chin?

    Thanks

    Steve

    Re: Ordering Online from USA

I may be wrong, but in the absence of other replies at the moment this is my understanding. When goods are advertised it is an offer to trade. I believe that it is only when they take your money and deliver your goods that a contract of sale is made.

If however they had already billed you at the lower price, I think they have an obligation to fulfil the sale.

I don't know how it being in another country affects things.

they are members of Denver/Boulder Consumer and Business Reviews, Reports, Ratings, Complaints and Accredited Business L - Denver and Boulder BBB
but cant find or see anything on there to help if I file a complaint.

Gutted I have lost some money and have done nothing wrong

Um You realise you would have had to pay duty on said tools? Which would have amounted to more then you lost in the exchange.

connected to this theme, has anyone ordered 'owt from the US and then received a separate import duty tax bill from DHL? happened to me recently, had to pay an extra £12 on top of the postage and product costs on an order from the States.

Not really. Honestly the UK is the biggest rip off lol. ...

Airlines charge you to leae the UK and to arrive (ive never paid so much tax!)

Indeed so Geneve. This is a high taxation country. I read somewhere the other day that the UK is one of the highest in the western world and the USA is one of the lowest.

But, to be candid with you, we have a far better public healthcare and benefits system here than in the USA.

Its hard to get both: low taxes and decent social welfare. I just wished the UK Gov't would spend the money wisely and not on pointless conflicts like Libya, Af'stan, Iraq etc.

Anyway, a digression from the topic. Just that I'm going to be wary ordering from the States again as it annoyed me greatly paying DHL the import tax, albeit that its the fault of the UK Gov't!

hahah Well I try to unwrap when I go home and bring things back -- say its for personal use. or I was bringing back from my house

(I bet Border patrol is reading this now lol)

Yeah, the healthcare isn't great... but in fairness I have not minded paying for my healthcare or contributing I got served quite quickly etc.

I do think the NHS is very generous here however a lot of things they pay for that the US wouldn't dream of. (some things necessary others not)

never knew we had one, lol.

reminds me of the RL TV show of same name set in Australia, where in one episode this guy is caught bringing in dozens of live snakes! I mean WTF, the stuff people try to get past customs

There is an unofficial way around the duty and VAT problem, but I am not publishing it on an open forum!

                          I'll say no more here.

                          P.P.
