You are correct (me wrong ) house purchases are not covered by CRA 2015, so it will be questionable if it applies to the cylinder.
The threat of a court battle however might push them to a compromise settlement

      Update from the developers -

"Warranty documents are handed over directly by the developer to the purchaser – on this occasion yourself – as part of the Home User Guide. As the developer hands over these documents directly, we do not have a copy of any warranty registration.

Additionally, it is part of the purchase process that you instruct a conveyancing solicitor who makes enquiries about warranties and guarantees on your behalf. The absence of any warranty should therefore have been identified during the time the purchase was proceeding and you may feel you want to contact the solicitor who dealt with the purchase for you to enquire about this.

Having undertaken a document search to try and assist you, XXXX does hold certificates to show when the cylinder was installed and safety checked. I have enclosed those documents with this letter in the hope that they may assist you in your dealings with Vaillant.

Vaillant does advertise a 25-year guarantee on their website for their products including the water cylinder that has failed in your case. We therefore encourage you continue engaging directly with Vaillant who manufactured the product and are liable for any defect."

They do have very sloping shoulders!

Let's hope that those documents help.

Hello, I’ve been doing some research and came across your post from last year. We have the exact same issue with our water cylinder and was wondering what response you got from the company you wrote the letter too and if you had to take it to court?

Look forward to hearing from you.

          Toni
